Willie Buchard Greenwood

Willie B. Greenwood was born on Wednesday, February 9, 1938, in Bailey, Mississippi, to Rutherford and Lela (Gordon) Greenwood. He was affectionately call "Butchit" by his family. During Willie's early years, he was a student at Bailey Elementary and High School. He loved playing basketball at school and was quite good at it. Basketball became his favorite sport and showed his competitive spirit. At the age of 19, Willie moved to Vallejo, CA where he flourished for 68 years. He worked at several jobs before he was hired at Sears & Roebuck, Company located in Larwin, Plaza in Vallejo where he was hired as a mechanic, and soon became "The Brake Specialist." He became popular at the Sears Auto Shop and was fondly called the "The Brake Man". He was a hard worker who put his whole heart into everything he did. He retired from Sears after 40 years of excellent service. Willie also enjoyed working on cars at his home as a side job. He always had a nice ride-his cars were always clean and shiny. As a young man, he helped to start an auto club in Vallejo. The love of Willie's life was his daughter Shelbie Greenwood, who passed away, but before her passing, she blessed him with a grandson, John Jones, Jr. Willie raised his grandson and lovingly called him "Sonny". He has been with his companion, Delores Pagucci, for 37 years. Willie loved gardening. He had an exceptional talent at growing fruits, vegetables, and plants, and was always willing to share his harvest with family and friends. Family meant a lot to Willie. He was always committed to participating in family events. He was also known as the "Cool Uncle" because he was a sharp dresser and was lots of fun at every gathering. Willie Buchard Greenwood, passed away peacefully at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Vallejo, CA on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rutherford and Lela Greenwood, his daughter, Shelbie greenwood, his sisters, Johnnie Mae Stancil, Dorothy Cooks, and Leanna Lay, and by his brothers, Gordon and Temple Greenwood. Willie leaves to cherish his memory: a companion, Delores Pagucci, of Vallejo; a grandson, John Jones, Jr. (Karina) of Vallejo; a great-grandson, Adais Jones of Vallejo; a brother, Bennie Greenwood (Diane) of Vallejo; and a hose of nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. Willie's passion for life touched everyone who knew him. Though we miss him deeply, his spirit and energy continue to inspire us all. His viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 3 PM to 6 PM. His Funeral Service will be held at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church located at 1905 Florida Street, Vallejo, CA on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11 AM. Burial will be in the Skyview Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo, CA following his funeral service.
